MY Philosophy

Wendy

Whittington

Counselor, LMHC, LPC

To evolve is to develop gradually, from a simple to a more complex form. A simple seed evolves into a complex, mighty tree.  To evolve is our destiny.

I see personal evolution as moving from density to lightness, from unaware to self-aware, from self-focus to “we-focus”.  You know which emotions and thoughts feel dense and which emotions and thoughts feel light. This isn’t about good or bad, just heavy and light. This density encompasses many areas of our being such as emotions, thoughts, actions, and sensations. Even as we navigate the ups and downs of life, the ebbing and flowing of our moods and feelings, we can move forward towards our highest potential.  This is not a static state where we will someday finally arrive, but a state of being that is open to becoming more.

As human beings we are evolving despite what the external world shows us. On the individual level people are beginning to open their hearts, to connect with others, to want to be kinder and to desire to uncover their own potential and gifts.

My role in this process is to help my clients become self-aware and realize the origins of their emotional wounds in order to heal and release them and shift onto a timeline where they are moving toward their own evolution, creating a better and better version of themselves and their life.

There are moments in our lives when shifts occur and we literally switch to a different path. That moment of shift is what I love to facilitate.

My Qualifications

I have been licensed since 2009 and in private practice since 2015. I became trained in and started using EMDR in 2008 before I was licensed and have found this modality extremely effective in resolving trauma, from big life altering trauma to little hurtful moments in a person's life. As my interest grew I began taking additional advanced trainings related to trauma and EMDR which has helped me manage a wide variety of issues and circumstances while using EMDR therapy. My interest in trauma, dissociation, and dissociative disorders has led me to involvement for many years with Healing Together, a conference for survivors ,supporters, and therapists of Dissociative Identity Disorder.
